Paula Patrício, a member of the Analysis Research Group, has been awarded funding under the FCT Mobility Program.

This funding will support the visit of Maíra Aguiar, Head of the Mathematical and Theoretical Biology group at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM), to NOVA Math. The visit aims to consolidate the collaboration between Maíra Aguiar and Paula Patrício through joint research on the mathematical modeling of vector-borne diseases (VBDs). The main objective is to develop and analyze models that capture the risk of disease introduction and establishment in non-endemic regions—a growing challenge for Europe in the context of climate change and increased mobility.

In addition, the visit will provide an opportunity to prepare joint publications, explore new research proposals, and further strengthen the connection between applied mathematics and epidemiology, in line with the Thematic Line Mathematics for Health and Biological Sciences.
