The Department of Mathematics of FCT NOVA, with the support of the Center of Mathematics and Applications (NOVA Math), will join the international celebrations of DIM, on 14th March 2023.
The meeting, that will take place in the Grand Auditorium, FCT-NOVA, between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m., will highlight a mathematics capable of widening the circles to embrace the world, a mathematics open to all and that opens us to others.
The event will bring together guests from the Heart of Mathematics, with remarkable credentials, who will tell us about the role of mathematics in their lives. People who have established mathematics a form of help, a form of connection. People to whom mathematics allowed them to overcome barriers and prejudices. People with a story to tell. Among the guests we have Ricardo Sousa, professor at ISCTE who developed work of social integration with prisoners, and Miguel Fonseca, professor of the Department of Mathematics of FCT NOVA, who will share the liberating role of mathematics.
